【BenQ Celebrates 21 Years】BenQ GP1 Projector Adds Light to the Lives of Kids in Rural Uganda

Eager to help this wonderful initiative as part of BenQ’s dedication to the environment and education, we provided a GP1 projector to serve as the centerpiece of these mobile movie theaters.

To mark BenQ’s 21st birthday, we’d like to share and highlight stories from around the world that exemplify the spirit of our team members. BenQ teams work on the basis of understanding customer needs and treating all contacts with compassion. Maintaining personal relations and helping out whenever possible are natural to BenQ teams, as we are all people, wherever we are, and we should help each other when we can. By sharing these stories, we hope to increase awareness of the importance of understanding customers and spotting opportunities for positive action. While we celebrate a happy BenQ birthday, let us maintain our mission of bringing quality and enjoyment wherever we are, as we lend a helping hand to people in need.

 

In 2010, Electric Pedals and GAFI created the first pedal-powered movie theater in the world. The movie theater embarked on a one-year tour of Uganda using electricity generated by people pedaling. Electric Pedals (www.electricpedals.com) is committed to creating innovative power solutions, while GAFI stands for Great Apes Film Initiative (www.gafi4apes.org). The organization aims to protect apes like gorillas and spread awareness of their needs via film projection. Electric Pedals and GAFI traveled to rural parts of Uganda, including remote communities, and set up temporary cinemas. The main goal was to highlight wildlife preservation, which was the topic of the content shown

 

Some of the locations visited did not have electricity at the time, and thus it was the first chance for kids and even teachers to watch movies on a proper big screen. Plus, the magic of the movie theater being powered by something as simple as bike pedals charmed audiences.

 

 

Eager to help this wonderful initiative as part of BenQ’s dedication to the environment and education, we provided a GP1 projector to serve as the centerpiece of these mobile movie theaters. The GP1 requires just 60 watts of power to work, so operating it using pedals was very possible. The GP1 is also light and easy to carry and set up and has a very long lamp life for extended use in the year-long cinematic journey undertaken by this great effort.

 

As we took part in the campaign, we got a chance to witness thousands of kids entranced by the wonder of big-screen projection, and we couldn’t look away from them as they took in every frame with great enjoyment. In those moments, the biggest and best part of having made BenQ a renowned global brand was our ability to leverage our capabilities in delivering happiness. What counted most was making humanity better, and this hasn’t changed since 2010. It is still our primary goal when all is said and done.

On the weekend when the TV installation was completed, Ms. Chen went home to visit her mother. She then happily shared with us that her elderly mother was enjoying her new television with no problems.

The Lighting team came up with a tailor-made solution using their 3D printer. After extensive measurements and tests, they designed and created an adapter specifically for Mr. Y’s case.

BenQ has won over many golfers and has gained lifelong customers that will continue to work with us long after the pandemic is a distant memory. And for that, we are grateful.

Distance and language proved no challenge for the genuine care and a strong desire to help a person in need. Sincerity and candor when talking to people are among the strongest values that motivate our teams, regardless of eventual purchase.
