Guest Series: Enhancing Studio Workflow with BenQ PD3205UA 4K Monitor

In my constant pursuit of enhancing the studio workflow, I’m thrilled to unveil the latest addition to the studio setup: the impressive BenQ PD3205UA 4K IPS monitor. This cutting-edge display has taken the place of its predecessor, the BenQ PD2700U which I have been using for years and has already proven to be a game-changer in the creative process.

The BenQ PD3205UA brings an immersive visual experience to the studio, thanks to its stunning and color-accurate 4K resolution. The clarity and detail it offers are truly remarkable, elevating my work to new heights. Whether I’m editing high-resolution images or working on a video project, every pixel comes alive on this exceptional display.

Replacing the BenQ PD2700U with the PD3205UA was a deliberate choice to enhance productivity and efficiency. The larger screen real estate (3840x2160 pixels) and enhanced color accuracy (99% sRGB, 99% Rec.709) of the PD3205UA allow my team and I to visualize the work with unrivalled precision. Colors pop vividly, and subtle nuances are captured effortlessly, providing the team and myself with the visual fidelity to make informed creative decisions.

To accommodate this new monitor on the tether cart, Martin (my assistant) and I embarked on a custom mounting and installation process. We recognized the importance of having the display securely attached to the tool chest, ensuring stability and flexibility during photoshoots - especially when changing the orientation from horizontal to vertical.

After test-fitting and measuring, Martin was able to create some plates made of acrylic and wood that would disperse the vertical load-bearing. Four holes were drilled and the pieces came together for a seamless installation as if it was designed that way. The effort and attention to detail invested in the installation have paid off, as the PD3205UA seamlessly integrates with the matte black tool cart, custom wood top, and ultimately the workflow, becoming an essential tool in my creative arsenal.

Beyond its exceptional visual capabilities, the BenQ PD3205UA boasts a range of features that further enhance the studio experience. The ergonomic design allows for effortless adjustment of the display's height, tilt, and swivel, ensuring optimal comfort during long sessions. The flicker-free technology and low blue light emission reduce eye strain, enabling us to work for extended periods without discomfort.

The PD3205UA's connectivity options are also noteworthy. With multiple ports, including USB-C (ideal for also powering the MacBook Pro), HDMI, and DisplayPort, we have the flexibility to connect various devices and peripherals, expanding our creative possibilities. This versatility streamlines our workflow and eliminates any unnecessary cable clutter which could create a tripping hazard when working with others on set.

Upgrading the monitor on the tether cart to the BenQ PD3205UA has revolutionized the studio environment and looks great as well! Its superb image quality, enhanced colour accuracy, and thoughtful design have elevated the work to new levels of excellence. With its custom mounting and seamless integration into our tether cart, it has become an indispensable tool that empowers us to achieve our creative vision effortlessly.
