Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom vs. BenQ Board

  • 2022-12-21
What is the difference in the different interactive smart boards showcased at FETC in 2023. Which TV is best for your classroom?

With schools transitioning from projector-based whiteboards into smart board classroom TV’s, many IT managers will be checking out the newest models at the 2023 Future of Education Technology Conference to compare options for their classroom smart board needs.

Here are the key elements we will compare of the Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display series with the BenQ Board:

· Touch technology

· Wireless screen sharing

· Safety features

· Array microphone and lecture recording software

· Device Management System

Touch technology

To better simulate the experience of using a real marker, BenQ and Promethean interactive displays use advanced IR touch systems that enable a near-instant response and a smoother, more intuitive writing experience called “FineIR,” with the premium models of the BenQ Board offering up to 40 points of touch.

The Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display supports 20 points of touch and uses a traditional IR sensor.

Flipped Classroom screen sharing

The speed with which technology changes seems faster and faster every day. The best classroom displays enable teachers to take advantage of new apps and teaching trends to improve student performance. How do you keep up with these ever-changing tech trends? Let’s look at how these two displays enable teachers and administrators to adapt and improve performance.

The BenQ Board also includes the best-in-class InstaShare wireless screen-sharing system so students and teachers can share their screens for a more interactive learning environment. Perfect for flipped classrooms, a teacher can now teach from anywhere – and directly see and control what goes on the screen beforehand to ensure against mischief. The teacher can either have students mirror their Chromebooks on the BenQ Board – or have the BenQ Board screen shared on their devices. The teacher can also split the screen to have multiple students share at the same time

The EShare Pro software on the G2 Classroom display will only allow teachers to broadcast to student devices, and doesn’t have split screen capabilities or the ability to for a teacher to preview the screen beforehand.

Safety features

In the post-2020 world we live in, health and safety for students and teachers are top of mind in every district across the country. Since both of these displays are designed for classroom use, how do they compare to the various safety features available today from the best classroom displays available today?

Certified Low Blue Light Output

The 2023 models of the BenQ Board come with TUV-certified low blue light output that minimizes the risk of adverse effects from long-term exposure to blue light. This is more advanced than many of the popular boards from SMART as well as the Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display.

Germ Resistant Screen

All models of BenQ Boards have germ-resistant screens that are made with a TUV-certified nano-ionic silver formula that is 99.9% effective against common germs. Some of the newest models have the same technology as pens and remotes. This technology is also certified by SIAA against allergic reactions, oral toxicity, and other tests making the BenQ Board one of the most health-conscious smartboards on the market.

The Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display does not use any germ-resistant technology.

Hardened Glass

Nothing can disrupt a class more than a football player's elbow accidentally shattering the screen of an interactive display. The BenQ Board RM Series uses a special 9H hardened glass like those used on phones to minimize this risk. The G2 Classroom Display screen has no hardness rating in its specifications.

Lecture Capture Software and Array Microphone

The past few years have taught us that school technology needs to adapt to fit the needs of various learning situations. So how can a display help balance different learning styles and keep kids engaged for higher performance?

The most advanced classroom smart boards enable a teacher to record anything on the screen at any time. The BenQ Board has integrated screen recording that can be activated with a simple two-finger tap on the screen. Using the computer and integrated memory, a teacher can save and share lessons for students who are struggling to catch up – or missed class due to vacation or illness.

The other component needed to enable a teacher to record a lesson is a microphone. The 2023 models of the RM and RP series of BenQ Boards come with an integrated array microphone for an all-in-one solution to teaching in any situation – and no additional work is needed to hook up additional A/V equipment.

The Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display does not come with either screen recording software or any microphone, creating an additional cost, more work, and limiting your capabilities to reach different types of learners.

Classroom Broadcasting Systems

Lack of effective communication is always a concern for teachers who are trying to juggle a million to-dos, daily meetings, and reports and teach hundreds of kids every day. With an advanced classroom smartboard, school administrators can send a message to an individual board, a group of boards, or even the whole campus.

All BenQ Boards come standard with a Device Management System (DMS) that permits admins to push settings, updates, apps, and campus-wide text messages to any or all boards in their network. The license-free X-Sign Broadcast enables administrators to schedule and send digital signage graphics and video streams to displays for morning announcements and/or emergency broadcasts. Both software packages are free, with no subscription on all BenQ displays.

The Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom Display Series has a G2 Control device management software package available – but at an additional annual cost. The display also offers G2 Alerts, which is like X-Sign but requires an additional annual subscription for this software. Galaxy Next Generation does not publish any annual pricing for these two software programs on their website

So which interactive board is better for you – BenQ Board or Galaxy Next Generation G2 Classroom?
