Four Ways the BenQ EX2780Q Has Everything You Want in a Gaming Monitor

BenQ

A gamer is playing shooting games on BenQ EX2780Q gaming monitor and enjoying wonderful sound effects.

We recently discussed why 27” makes for the perfect screen size if you’re gaming at 2560 x 1440, also known as 2K or QHD. And here’s the BenQ EX2780Q to show us just why that’s the case, embodying the ideal monitor for gamers at this mid-point between 1080p and 4K.

There may be plenty of 27” monitors out there that support QHD but few have as many features and gamer-centric boons packed into them. Shall we take a closer look at the EX2780Q?

Putting Intelligence in HDR

Somehow high dynamic range has become intimately tied with 4K but there’s nothing stopping us from having it on QHD monitors. The EX2780Q has VESA Display HDR400 certification, driven by a 10-bit panel that shows over a billion colors with 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. But there’s more! Unlike run of the mill gaming monitors, the EX2780Q features a front-mounted, discrete light sensor to detect ambient conditions and automatically adjust HDR levels. That’s HDRi, a proprietary BenQ technology that works to refine HDR rather than just stick with presets that end up causing extreme brightness or overly deep darks. With HDRi the monitor’s dynamic range takes on a hefty aspect of smart that helps prevent detail loss, something any gamer is sure to appreciate.

Thanks to our HDRi tech, you don’t need to worry about constantly bringing up the options menu and trying to calibrate HDR levels because you can’t shake the nagging feeling details get washed out by exaggerated brightness or contrast. That HDRi sensor offers more than a nice line on a spec sheet, it affords peace of mind.

Make the Most of 1440p

Describing QHD as a mid-point between 1080p and 4K has a lot to do with the much better performance you can get in even the most graphics-intense games at this resolution. While 4K looks great, the hardware needed to run games in high settings in 2160p at anything over 60fps doesn’t exist unless you count the most expensive GPUs, and even those may struggle. However, with QHD you easily get essentially unlocked framerates even with affordable graphics cards, in ultra settings. To make the most of this situation, the EX2780Q has a 144Hz refresh rate, reinforced with AMD FreeSync to eliminate screen tearing. Whether you’re a single player, story-bound gamer or all about online multiplayer, the EX2780Q provides smooth, great looking visuals in any title.

Like the Sound of That

The EX2780Q ships with our exclusive treVolo audio array so you don’t need to splurge on external speakers to get great sound. Designed specifically to fit within the slim form factors of modern monitors, the treVolo setup consists of two front-firing 5W speakers and a separate 5W subwoofer. That’s not the generic tinny sound you get with bargain basement gaming monitors, because the speaker setup creates impressive audio that’s just right: neither overwhelming nor requiring you to strain to hear nuances. Of course, several sound processing modes are included, mainly gaming, movies, music, and voice. Our treVolo audio has a reputation for being one of the best in the business and we’re sure you’ll like it. Besides, whenever you need to be considerate, there’s a headphone jack.

Get Plugging – with Ports Galore and a Nifty Remote

One of the ways cost down monitors manage their inconceivably low price tags is giving you the basic I/O of one HDMI and one DisplayPort. None of that with the EX2780Q. Behold dual HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and of course USB-C. Connect your PC, a console, a streaming box, and a MacBook, or any other combination you may need. Plus we include a handy remote in addition to the already very stylish and intuitive OSD. Isn’t it great when someone thinks of all those details?
