The 6406EU offers speeds of 6X (write), 4X (rewrite), and 6X (read), with a typical access time of just 120 ms. It can accept both 80 mm and 120 mm CD discs and is suitable for a wide range of formats: CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM (mode 1 and mode 2), CD-ROM XA (mode 2, form 1 and form 2), CD-DA, CD-I (mode 2, form 1 and form 2), Photo CD (single and multi-sessions), Video CD, CD-Extra, and Mixed mode CD. The CRW 6406EU is easily installed, thanks to its USB 1.1 interface. It also features upgradeable flash memory, ensuring that the product can be upgraded to meet changing situations. It is compatible with Windows 98 / 2000 / Me / Mac OS 8.x / 9.x. And it is compact - 154.6 x 50.2 x 230.5 mm (W x H x D) - and its ergonomically designed front panel places all functions at the users fingertips. It also features a convenient 3.5 mm headphone (analog) socket.

Acer has heard its customers' requests for a highly reliable, convenient, and quality external CD Writer and Rewriter; the CRW 6406EU fully meets those needs.

Seamless Link Technology*
This ensures that buffer under run - the cause of many write and rewrite failures - is eliminated. The "Seamless Link" technology allows the driver to monitor automatically the progress of the recording. If the data in the buffer falls below a certain level, then Seamless Link stores the RecEnd address - the point in the data to which the recording has progressed - and pauses the recording until the buffer is again full. The RecEnd address is then located and the recording progresses without problems. The gap between the stop and restart point on the recording is then closed by Seamless Link.
