EUROPE (September, 2001) Acer is recognised as one of the leading specialists in state-of-the-art CD rewriters, and our new 1610A offers a high quality rewriter, with all the features you can expect from a top-of-the-range model.

In line with Acer's determination to hear what users want, the 1610A offers the Acer-developed Seamless Link technology. This is a sophisticated breakthrough that allows the CD-RW drive to store the RecEnd address, the point in the data to which the recording mechanism has progressed, and pause the recording before a buffer under run occurs. When the buffer is again full, a Seamless Link-enabled CD-RW drive locates the RecEnd address and resumes the recording process. The gap between the stop and restart point is closed, while managing the recording process precisely and transparently eliminating under run errors while maintaining recording accuracy. It ensures a higher level of writing reliability than has ever been possible in the past.

The 1610A offers a very high level of performance: it offers data rate / write of 16X, rewrite at 10X, and read at 40X. Access time is 100 ms, typical. It has a 2 Mbytes buffer and an E-IDE/ATAPI interface. It offers five writing modes - Disc-at-once, Track-at-once, Multisession, Packet writing, and Raw writing - and a complete range of disc formats, including CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, CD-ROM XA, CD-DA, Bootable CD, Photo CD, Video CD, CD-Extra, Mixed mode CD, and CD-text. It will accept both 80mm and 120 mm CD discs. The audio performance is very high, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 75 dB min, less than 2% distortion, and a sampling frequency of 44.1 KHz.

A special feature introduced by Acer is Flash Memory Upgrade, allowing users to upgrade the software of their drive, to ensure forward compatibility and long life.

The Acer 1610A is compatible with Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT 4.0 / 2000 and requires an IBM PC compatible Pentium 200 MHz or higher; 64 MB DRAM, 1 GB for Image recording, and 150 MB free HD space for installing writing software. The drive measures 146 x 42 x 198 mm and weighs just 1.0 kg.
