Is screen sharing possible in a Wi-Fi-less environment?

10-09-2024

Screen sharing in a Wi-Fi-less environment can be set up via the three different setup scenarios and the subsequent instructions described below.

Scenario A (A network configuration set up using two devices):

Device 1: Projector with Google TV OS.

Device 2: Smartphone acting as a Wi-Fi access point (sharing a hotspot with stable 45/5G Internet).

Use Device 2 to cast media content onto Device 1.

Scenario B (A network configuration set up using three devices):

Device 1: Projector with Google TV OS.

Device 2: Smartphone acting as a Wi-Fi access point (sharing a hotspot with stable 45/5G Internet).

Device 3: Smart device (cellphones/ tablets) that you wish to cast media content with.

Use Device 3 to cast media content onto Device 1.

For Android devices:

  1. Please choose scenario B to run casting since the Google-related casting service is not available for a two-device configuration (Scenario A).
  2. Make sure Device 1 and Device 3 are connected to the same hotspot shared by Device 2.
  3. Make sure your projector stays on the Google TV home page.
  4. Download the Google Home app from the Google Play Store on your Android devices.
  5. Find the corresponding BenQ Google TV device name (e.g. BenQGV01 for BenQ GV50 Projector) in the Device section of Google Home to begin casting.

For iOS/macOS  devices:

  1. Scenario A and B can be run in a Wi-Fi-less environment, if your Device 2 is not able to provide a stable 45/5G Internet hotspot, only local media can be cast.
  2. Make sure Device 1 and Device 3 are connected to the same hotspot shared by Device 2.
  3. Go to Home > APPS > Screen Sharing for iOS or go to Settings > Projector > Advanced > Screen Sharing for iOS.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and cast/mirror your iOS device via Airplay.
