The best monitor for your MacBook Pro depends on what you want to improve: text clarity, screen size, motion smoothness or everyday convenience. Within the BenQ MA series, our specification-based recommendations are MA270S for maximum text detail, MA320UG for a large display with smoother motion, and MA270U or MA320U for a matte 4K workspace. The MA270UP and MA320UP provide glossy 4K alternatives.
BenQ’s MA series combines Mac-focused colour tuning with a choice of screen finishes and connections that carry video, data and laptop power. This guide explains which differences matter before you buy. Explore the BenQ MA series.

Actual resolution and refresh rate depend on the MacBook Pro, cable, connection and display configuration. A monitor’s maximum specification does not guarantee that every Mac can run it at that setting. Apple’s external-display compatibility guide.

Sources: BenQ’s official specifications for MA270U, MA320U, MA270UP, MA320UP, MA270S and MA320UG.
All six specify IPS panels, a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1.07 billion display colours and a 5ms grey-to-grey response time.
Specification note: these figures follow the detailed US specification pages. Some overview graphics and third-party listings show different values; check the local specification sheet when purchasing.
Is 4K or 5K better for MacBook Pro?
Choose 5K when fine text and interface detail are your priority. At 27 inches, the MA270S packs more pixels into the same screen area than the 27-inch 4K models.
A 5120 × 2880 display can represent a 2560 × 1440 desktop using exactly two physical pixels in each direction for every logical pixel. This explains the appeal of 27-inch 5K for reading, coding and detailed interface work.
A 4K display remains a practical choice for documents, spreadsheets, presentations and general content creation. Choose a comfortable scaling setting in macOS rather than assuming that the highest “more space” option will be easiest to read.
Remember that a larger 4K screen does not contain more pixels than a smaller 4K screen. The 31.5-inch models make those pixels physically larger; usable desktop space also depends on scaling.
Should you choose matte or glossy?
The MA270U and MA320U use Nano Matte surfaces. They are sensible starting points when reflections from windows or office lighting are a concern.
The MA270UP, MA320UP, MA270S and MA320UG use Nano Gloss surfaces. Consider these if you prefer a glossy appearance and can position the monitor to avoid direct reflections.
Screen finish is a workspace decision as much as an image preference. Before buying, check where windows and lamps will sit relative to the display. BenQ describes both finishes in its MA series overview.
Why does Mac-focused colour tuning matter?
Two displays can show the same image differently because their colour profiles, brightness, white point and display modes differ.
BenQ’s M-Book mode is designed to reduce the visual difference between an MA monitor and a MacBook. Display Pilot 2 adds iDevice Color Sync to select an appropriate matching target. This is useful when moving documents, photographs or creative work between screens. BenQ’s colour-matching instructions.
P3 coverage and colour accuracy are different measures. A wide gamut describes the range of colours a display can reproduce; it does not, by itself, prove that every colour is reproduced accurately. For colour-critical deliverables, assess the complete workflow, including profiling, application settings and viewing conditions.
Does a higher refresh rate make a difference?
A 120Hz display can update twice as often as a 60Hz display. That makes the MA320UG the logical MA model to investigate if smoother scrolling, window movement and supported high-frame-rate content matter to you.
The MA270S prioritises 5K detail and lists a maximum of 70Hz. The four U and UP models operate at up to 60Hz. These are different priorities: maximum sharpness, maximum motion smoothness, or a straightforward 4K workspace.
The MA320UG also includes Smart KVM for sharing connected controls between computers. MA320UG features.
What about charging and desk comfort?
The MA270U, MA320U, MA270UP and MA320UP provide up to 90W of laptop power over USB-C. Their stands offer 115mm height adjustment.
The MA270S and MA320UG provide up to 96W through their main Thunderbolt 4 connection and offer 150mm height adjustment. All six support tilt, swivel and pivot. See each model’s linked specification page above.
Charging speed depends on your MacBook Pro and workload. Do not equate a 90W or 96W connection with the 140W fast-charging arrangement Apple specifies for supported 16-inch models. Apple’s fast-charging guide.
