Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023: Viva Magenta

Pantone sees color as a form of communication, so at the turn of the millennia they started the Color of the Year program in hopes to encourage new ways of communication with color. Since Pantone is a longtime color solutions provider for creators in the industry, the program helps them further understand the power color has. You can find inspirational color palettes and associated products in the Pantone Marketplace!

For 2023, Pantone has chosen Viva Magenta (18-1750), which is described as a vigorous and vibrant shade that exudes nature. The color descends from the red family and signifies new strength for the new year. It is a color that promotes bravery and celebration, “writing a new narrative” as Pantone describes it.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, explained that the hue was inspired by the natural red dye derived from small insects called cochineal beetles.

"As virtual worlds become a more prominent part of our daily lives, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. Rooted in the primordial, Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength."

Why Is Viva Magenta Important?

Viva Magenta inspires us to express ourselves with confidence and bravery. It is an alternative to the traditional red shade that encourages us to take on new challenges. Viva Magenta offers the assurance and motivation to persevere through difficult times. Find out how to incorporate Viva Magenta in your day-to-day.

About the Pantone Color Matching System

Pantone offers a range of products and services to help creative professionals define, communicate, and control color. All of these are based on a system created by the Pantone Color Institute, known as the Pantone Color Matching System. This system was developed to provide universal reference to a world of color, ensuring greater accuracy and consistency. It forms the backbone of Pantone’s “color as a language” approach, because anyone can refer to the matching system and incorporate it in their work. This is why professionals look for monitors that are tested and approved by Pantone’s system to be color accurate as much as possible. We takes great care to make sure AQCOLOR monitors are perfectly in tune with Pantone standards across the entire color matching system. All of them are Pantone Validated, factory-calibrated, and we also had the world’s first Pantone SkinTone Validate monitors, designed to depict human skin tones with utmost realism.
