Why are there two grooves on the lamp body?

Those are specially designed positioning grooves. 

They serve as indicators that only the surface with grooves can be attached to your laptop.

Additionally, you can align the positioning grooves at the upper end of the lamp body with the top edge of the laptop to achieve optimal assembly height.

If the assembly height of the lamp body is too high, there may be too little contact with the magnet patch, leading to weak contact.

If the assembly height of the lamp body is too low, it could affect the adjustment angles of the lamp head and lamp arm.
