During the recent golf boom in Japan, many driving ranges and entertainment facilities equipped with golf simulators have become commonplace. These facilities allow individuals or small groups to play at the same time, promoting quality time with friends and family. In addition, as they are not affected by the weather conditions that often hamper the outdoor golfer, they can be installed at home or at work, allowing people to enjoy practicing and playing in a private space at any time.
We interviewed Mr. A, a company owner who installed a golf simulator in his building in April 2023, about how he came to choose the LU935ST short-throw laser projector for golf.

Why decided to introduce the Golf Simulator
We are a small company with about 40 employees, and many of them were interested in taking up golf but had not had the opportunity to do so. Therefore, we decided to install a golf simulator as part of our employee benefits program, making use of a vacant space in our building. We learned that a ceiling height of at least 3 meters is required to install a golf simulator, and the fact that we were able to secure that height was a major factor in our decision to install the system.
Advantages of introducing a golf simulator
Although many of our employees have always been interested in golf, I think it has also boosted morale and positive culture within the company. I believe that regular moderate exercise helps to maintain personal health, and if the level of satisfaction with the company and the ease of working improves, it will also lead to increased productivity.
How do you choose BenQ golf projectors
Actually, we were using a projector from another company when we introduced the golf simulator. After completing all installations, we soon found out that this device would not fit our requirements.
The general process for constructing an indoor golf environment is to select a simulator (a device that measures the ball's trajectory), followed by interior work, including the installation of a screen and projector. If the interior work is done by a contractor, the projector is often left to the contractor as well, which may result in an environment that is different from the image you had in mind. We also hired an interior decorator with many years of experience, but although he had no problem with interior design, his knowledge of projectors was limited. He was unable to project an image onto the entire screen.
After studying the projector ourselves, we decided to purchase a new projector to achieve an ideal golf environment. We chose the BenQ LU935ST short-throw laser projector.
What made you choose BenQ's dedicated golf projector?
The first reason is the short-throw lens design. Unlike most projectors with a long focal length that requires a long distance from the screen, a projector with a short focal length, such as the one from BenQ, can be placed close to the screen.
The space where we installed the simulator this time was 5.2 meters deep, with a 3-meter high, 3.2-meter wide, vertical screen surface. Although the space was not ideal, the BenQ LU935ST was able to project images onto the entire screen with plenty of room to spare, unlike previous projectors which cut off as black blank the top and bottom edges of the image.
We learned that indoor golf has special requirements for projectors. The screen is nearly a vertical square to maintain ceiling height for swinging, while the original video image is a standard 16:9 ratio. The BenQ projector has a wide variety of correction functions to reduce distortion, and the distortion and straight line bends on the periphery of the screen are now invisible to the naked eye.
Second, the cost performance was excellent. Other companies offer projectors with short focal length lenses, but they are all much more expensive than the BenQ LU935ST. They also have many features that are not necessary for golf simulators.

Before choosing BenQ projectors, I did not know about the company well. However, my research showed that BenQ is not bound by existing frameworks and is boldly entering new fields such as golf and gaming. The company is also making technological innovations in digital displays and monitors. I find the free rental of actual equipment and the telephone support system by technicians to be attractive features that other companies do not offer.
Tips for people who are considering golf simulator products in the future.
I think it's important to choose a product that meets your needs and purpose. I personally want an immersive golf simulation experience, but if you just want to practice, a minimal projection system will suffice. I hope those considering these products will be able to enjoy playing golf in an environment that's right for them.
