Units Feature Mercury-Free Blue Core Light Engine for 20,000 Hours of Lamp-Less Operation and Ultra-High 80,000:1 Contrast Ratio

TORONTO — May 1, 2012 — BenQ Canada Corp. today announced that the first short-throw education projectors to feature the company’s cutting-edge, mercury-free blue core light engine are now available in Canada: the LX60ST and LW61ST. Designed to offer stunning visual performance and color accuracy with an ultra-high 80,000:1 contrast ratio, the blue core light engine utilizes a laser light source rather than a traditional mercury lamp. The result is up to 20,000 hours of reliable brightness, complete elimination of lamp replacement costs, and a 90-percent reduction in light source power consumption. In addition, BenQ’s blue core light engine-driven SmartEco Advanced™ technology optimizes the units’ light source systems to deliver exceptional brightness, longer life, and high-energy efficiency.

“For educators, the LX60ST and LW61ST blue core light engine projectors drastically reduce costs while offering unrivalled performance with their ultra-high contrast ratio,” said Mike Booker, Vice President of Sales at BenQ Canada Corp. “With the blue core light engine, users will never have to replace a lamp for the entire life of the product. Furthermore, there are no filters to change so schools simply need to install the projector and never touch it again for the life of the product.”

The units feature instant on/off to save time on warm up and cool down, in addition to manual brightness level adjustment to accommodate different classroom environments. To generate the best image contrast, the projectors’ “SmartEco Advanced” mode automatically determines the optimal brightness level based on the input source, while a “no source detected” mode automatically lowers brightness to 10 percent when no display has been detected for more than three minutes. With “eco blank” mode, teachers can blank out the LX60ST and LW61ST’s screens when not in use to redirect students’ focus, while lowering light source power consumption to only 10 percent.

The BenQ blue core light engine classroom projectors offer 2,000 ANSI lumen brightness, XGA/WXGA resolution, and 0.6/0.49 short-throw projection. The units feature two 10-W built-in speakers and microphone input, less than 0.5-W standby power, Apple® iPhone®/iPad® wireless display support, LAN display, USB display, and 360-degree tilted projection. The LX60ST and LW61ST are backed by a three-year parts and labor warranty.
