Keep the Earth Lookin’ Great BenQ Awarded Champion of “Taipei City Energy Conservation Award”

Taipei, Taiwan, June 4 — BenQ was awarded the champion in the A industry and commerce category of the “Taipei City Golden Energy Conservation Award 2009” by the Taipei City Government on June 4, an acknowledgement of the company’s remarkable achievement in pushing energy conservation and carbon abatement over the past two years.

Jerry Wang, Vice Chairman of BenQ Corp, received the award, plus NT$200,000 of prize money during the award-giving ceremony. This was the second edition of the award, designed to encourage the city’s institutions and citizens to conserve energy and induce the formation of a social movement for low carbon emission and energy consumption, via public compliment of those exemplary institutions with outstanding achievement in energy utilization efficiency and energy conservation.

The honor embodies the company’s achievement in pushing the energy conservation and carbon abatement program since 2007. Via reduction of power consumption for air conditioning and lighting purposes in offices and internal promotion of energy-conservation concept, the company has reduced energy consumption by 570,200 kilowatt/hour in total, equivalent to reduction of 364 metric tons of CO2 emission. The energy utilization intensity (EUI) at the BenQ headquarters, located in Neihu district of Taipei City, for instance, has dropped to 103 kwh/m2.yr, far below the average level of 190.4 kwh/m2.yr in the category of office buildings.

Wang remarked, “As a branded company, BenQ must fulfill its commitment of caring for the earth and protecting the environment. While offering consumers the pleasure generated by digital fashion products, we must cut energy waste and CO2 emission at the same time, in compliance with the company’s unrelenting effort in achieving the goal of “Keep the Earth Lookin’ Great,” thereby fulfilling the social responsibility of an enterprise. The award represents an acknowledgement of the company’s effort in environment protection and energy conservation in daily life, giving us great encouragement.”

Wang further pointed out that BenQ has been implementing the product policy of “BenQ Green Design Guideline” since 2008, with the objective to offer consumers a full series of green fashion products that feature design improvement in material usage, environment-friendly packing materials, energy saving, and acquisition of Eco Label, underscoring the design principle of energy conservation and carbon abatement. The ultimate goal of the company, said Wang, is to become an enterprise which cares for the environment, capable of satisfying the needs of consumers and fulfilling the commitment of environmental protection at the same time.
