Golf Sim Graphical Fidelity in Bright Environments

Golf simulation screens are typically larger than a home theater screen, so you will need a brighter projector for the best simulation experience to ensure your picture doesn’t get washed out. The brighter your space, the more lumens you’ll need to “compete” with it. In addition, most launch monitors require enough light in the hitting area to be able to see the movement of the ball to help calculate how far you hit. A 3000 ANSI lumen projector is a good starting point for a smaller impact screen, allowing users to clearly see the image on the golf simulator screen even with room lights turned on.

Installation Notice

  • The distance between the hitting area and screen in your golf simulator should be at least 6-7ft and can be up to 14ft or more. The tee to screen distance is a balance between immersion, reducing impact screen bounceback, and allowing maximal accuracy from your launch monitor.

  • Throw ratio is the ratio of throw distance (the distance from projector to screen) to horizontal image width. On a projector with a throw ratio of 0.6, for every 1 foot of image width, the projector needs to be 0.6ft away from the screen. So to project a horizontal screen size of 12ft, for example, you’d need to mount the projector 7.2ft from the screen.
Golf Simulator Projector Installation

  • Floor mount is the simplest and most budget-friendly choice for placing a projector in front of an impact screen in a golf simulation arrangement, especially for smaller setups and those using traditional 4:3 aspect ratios. These enclosures require “short throw” projectors that enable the projector to be relatively close to the screen (and away from your driver) but still provide a large image. Two popular projectors for floor mounting are the MX825ST, which is set up for a 4:3 square screen aspect ratio, and the TH671ST, which has a widescreen aspect ratio and 1080P resolution.
