Europe, 5th of February, 2004 - BenQ (TAIEX: 2352; London: BEQD) today
announced that it’s consolidated revenues for its core business reached a historic high in January at US$410 million, a 5% increase compared to previous month’s figure and a 42% increase compared to January 2003 figures.  For the parent company, revenue reached US$330 million, a 37 % increase compared to January 2003 figures.

“BenQ’s product lines fulfills the demands of the digital integration trend, and as a result, we performed well in Q1 despite the effects of the seasonal influences,” said K.Y. Lee, BenQ CEO.  “In some of the high growth product areas, BenQ is armed with an array of products, or will be launching new products.  I am confident that 2004 as a whole will be a year of growth for the company.”

Looking at individual business groups within BenQ, the Network Display Business Group saw outstanding performance in January, with shipments of LCD monitors reaching a new high of six hundred thousand units.  With BenQ’s recent launch of its new 12 ms response time monitor series, BenQ has shown its ability to consistently produce quality products that set new industry standards.

As a result of seasonal influences on computer peripherals sales, the Imaging Network Business Group saw a slight slip in its production figures compared to last month.  However, the group has seen upward trends in shipment of DVD Burners and Slim Type Optical Storage Drives.

The Networking Communications Group also saw a slight decline in January sales volume compared to December, due to fewer workdays in the month.  However, the sales figures in the month of January exceeded 1 million units.  The emphasis this year will be on BenQ’s self-branded mobile phones, which has already seen positive feedback from the China and India markets.  With the launch of the S670C camera phone with 3D face morphing technology, BenQ expects to see shipments increase in Q1 and an upgrade in the competitiveness of BenQ’s mobile phones.

For the Digital Media Business Group, shipment volumes is increasing steadily and product lines are experiencing growth as a result of the launch of new products, such as the sleek 12-inch screen Joybook 6000.
